Beavers AGM Report 2018/19

Date: 13th Jun 2019 Author: Scout Websites

Both Beaver Colonies have had another successful year. We have around 50 boys and girls enjoying Beavers on a weekly basis on either a Monday or Friday. Both Colonies broadly run similar programmes to achieve the same badges and all Beavers have the opportunity to attend the many joint events as well as activities run by the Group.

Our programme over the year has been varied and focusing on the various badges. Presentations have been made of all challenge awards. The Beavers have also been working on various activity badges. 12 Beavers achieved the bronze award of the Chief Scout Challenge. When Beavers leave to swim up to Cubs we always ask their favorite activity and without exception this is always the camps. The 10 nights away badge is now common place with our older Beavers.

Our Beavers attended the National Beaver Picnic at Meggernie which was an amazing day out and trying out various activities and meeting other Beavers from across Scotland. Our highlight of the year was winning our class of the under 12s singing games category at the Arbroath & District Music Festival 2018. The Beavers all did really well and enjoyed the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.
Beavers have had the opportunity to attend may residential experiences over the course of the year. The Beavers attended the Craig’s Camp in May last year and enjoyed being in tents. Then in March the Beavers enjoyed being day visitors to the Group Camp at Fordell Firs Activity Centre in Fife. We have enjoyed various activities over the year from husky racing at Easthaven Beach to dam building on the Lochty Burn.

We were joint winners at the District Swimming Gala at Arbroath Swimming Pool so well done to Luke, Harris, Manny and Abby in the winning team.

We have partied to celebrate Halloween and for our Christmas Party we visited Jumping Joeys in Arbroath. We have been on outings to the pantomime at the High School Theatre and the Dundee Scout Gang Show at the Whitehall Theatre. The Beavers also attended the Carnoustie Remembrance Day Parade. Our summer trip was to the Monikie Park to the Group Activities day.

In Carnoustie we have continued to benefit from having a committed and dedicated leadership team and this is reflected in the great number and variety of activities which have been offered to the Beavers. Our thanks go to Rachael Barber, Lorna Hendry, Lesley Ritchie and Kenny Lee for their help, support and continued enthusiasm over the year to continue with the success of the colonies. Thanks to our young leaders Lewis McNicoll and Katy Roberts. Thanks also to all the leaders and parents who have helped from time to time especially Kenney Falconer. We are all looking forward to a continued varied programme in the coming year.
